Nashville, TN – The Tennessee House has voted to require drunken drivers to install ignition locking devices in their vehicles if they are found to have a 0.15 blood alcohol level. The House voted 96-0 in favor of the bill and the Senate last month voted 31-0 for its version. The bill now heads for the governor's consideration.
According to the state Safety Department, about 3,900 people were issued restricted licenses for drunken driving convictions in 2008. About 1,200 of them were for a blood alcohol content above 0.15 percent. The program would be paid for by a $30 monthly fee paid by drivers required to install the device.
