Eddyville, KY – Lyon County school officials are closing their middle school building for the next fall semester to confront concerns over structural deterioration. The Paducah Sun reports parts of the school's concrete is encountering an alkali-carbonate reaction, which causes concrete to slowly break down. Sixth through eighth grade students will be housed in the elementary school building, which is expected to make for cramped quarters and strained extracurricular space, but officials promise education will not be hindered. Structural repairs could take up to two years.
