Disaster Aid for Tennessee Advances in U.S. Senate

By AP

Washington D.C. – A key US Senate panel has approved more than $400 million in additional disaster aid for Tennessee, part of a war fund measure costing about $59 billion. The money is described as a down payment on aid to flood-drenched Tennessee and Rhode Island.

The must-pass legislation is the only appropriations bill likely to advance to President Barack Obama's desk until the fall. Republican support Thursday for the measure seems to bode well for floor passage before Memorial Day.
