Paducah, KY – The Reidland-Farley Fire Department has a new chief. Trustees unanimously voted in Rick Archer, who's been acting chief since December. He officially replaces Richard Tapp, who was fired last month for violating his contract. Archer tells the Paducah Sun he wants to see the outfit move back into obscurity after public attention has thrust it into the spotlight for over a year now. Former Chief Tapp was paid a full-time annual salary of $50,000 but Archer's position will be considered volunteer-based. Trustee Chairman David Humphrey says Archer may one day be compensated, but for now the deparment's finances won't allow for it.
