$75,000 Awarded to Nashville Woman

By Chris Taylor

Jackson, TN – A federal jury in Jackson, Tennessee has awarded a woman $75,000 in damages after the Henry County Sheriff's Department seized thousands in cash from her car almost two years ago. Deputy Ricky Wade alleged the cash Carmina Perez was carrying came from proceeds of drug sales, though they didn't charge her with anything. According to Perez, she was carrying the money to Mexico to pay for her mother's medical bills. Sheriff Monte Belew tells the Paris Post Intelligencer Wade will be solely liable for paying the compensatory damage award and his administration supports the deputy.
