Hopkinsville, KY – A Hopkinsville businessman has pleaded guilty to charges he was involved in a multi-state tax-evasion scheme on cigarettes sold in Kentucky. 60-year-old Charles Wells admits he avoided paying federal and state taxes on cigarettes and made false monthly tobacco reports. The Kentucky New Era reports Wells owns the Tobacco Patch stores and H&W Wholesale in Hopkinsville. He faces up to 20 years in prison and has agreed to forfeit $3 million worth of property.
