Frankfort, KY – Attorney General Jack Conway will be his party's candidate in the November general election to fill the U.S. Senate seat Jim Bunning is leaving. Conway won Tuesday's primary by a very slim margin.
Just two weeks before the election, a Lexington-Herald leader poll put Conway's challenger, Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo slightly ahead. But Conway won the night with barely a one-point lead. After thanking supporters gathered at the downtown Louisville Marriott, and calling Mongiardo a worthy opponent, Conway turned to his next battle: against Republican Rand Paul. He criticized Paul's stance against the Civil Rights Act and another law aimed at helping a minority.
"If you are a Democrat, Independent, or Republican in our great Commonwealth of Kentucky, and you care about the Americans with Disabilities Act, then you cannot afford Rand Paul, because he wants to do away with that."
Conway campaigned on issues of fiscal responsibility, job creation, and protecting social security. For Kentucky Public Radio, I'm Kristin Espeland Gourlay.
