"I supported Trey Grayson because I'm known him for years and I thought he would be a great candidate for the Senate. The Republican voters of Kentucky have spoken and I'm enthusiastically behind Rand Paul."
Speaking on MSNBC, this is how Paul described his relationship with senator McConnell before he won the Republican primary.
"I think our relationship is cordial. I've gone out of my way to extend the olive branch and meet with him.
After his victory, Paul told the same network "we're going to be best friends now. I'm putting him on my short list on my cell phone." During the campaign, critics accused Paul of quietly seeking support from the very Republicans he criticized. McConnell, Paul, and Grayson will appear together Saturday for a unity rally at the state Republican Party headquarters in Frankfort.
