Illinois Prepares for Special Session

By Angela Hatton

Springfield, IL – Illinois lawmakers return to Springfield next week but Governor Pat Quinn won't say if he'll sign a budget that delays the state's pension contributions. Quinn says lawmakers need to borrow the money to make the contribution. But lawmakers have been cool to the borrowing idea and it would require at least some Republican support. The legislature will return to Springfield next week to try to pass a budget. Illinois faces a 13-billion dollar budget deficit. Lawmakers are trying to wrap up by May 31 because new fiscal year starts July 1.
