Kentucky Jobless Rate Drops Slightly in April

By AP

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky's unemployment rate dropped slightly in April but remained in double digits. The state Office of Employment and Training reported Thursday that the jobless rate in April was 10.6%, down from a revised 10.7% the month before. Last month's figure is up two-tenths from April 2009. The April rate matches December's statewide figures and is the lowest Commonwealth jobless rate since that time.

Kentucky chief labor market analyst Justine Detzel says Kentucky's economy continued to stabilize last month. But Detzel says it's temporary jobs, rather than permanent ones, that are fueling employment growth.
