Frankfort, KY – As expected, the Governor's call for a special legislative session includes a new two year budget plan. The formal call was made Thursday afternoon. The session begins on Monday. The legislature will also be asked to approve an expansion of the state's alcoholic beverage sampling law. Governor Beshear says it's an economic development matter.
"Most like our signature industry of bourbon can have tastings at the World Games and things like that to show off the product. That's going to help us in terms of tourism and economic development."
Senate President David Williams believes the senate can pass the latest budget plan without amendment. He's disappointed legislation which would give local school districts the option of setting up charter schools is not on the agenda. Williams maintains the absence of such a proposal could cost the state tens of millions of dollars in federal funding.
