Springfield, IL – Like Kentucky, Illinois lawmakers are back in Springfield this week to make another go at passing a budget. The House reconvenes today and meets through Wednesday. The Senate convenes Wednesday and may meet through Friday. Legislative leaders aren't saying what budget action they'll pursue. The Legislature adjourned earlier this month without passing a budget. Lawmakers are stuck on what to do about a $13 billion deficit. Democrats are hoping to approve a spending plan by May 31. After then, new requirements kick in and Republican votes would be required to pass any budget measure. Democratic Governor Pat Quinn has been meeting with legislators to build support for his proposals to borrow billions of dollars. The current budget expires on June 30.
