Louisville, KY – Results of a University of Louisville study published in the journal 'Pediatrics' this week address parental concerns about the safety of multiple vaccinations during the first year of life. Lead author Dr. Michael Smith says researchers looked at the health records of more than one thousand children and found no evidence that the early vaccinations affect a cognitive abilities later. Smith says it's riskier to put off the shots.
"The longer your child remains unvaccinated, the more susceptible they are to vaccine preventable diseases...that's the most obvious one. It's the seat belt analogy. Delaying vaccines is like saying it's okay to wait until you've backed down the driveway and gotten on the freeway before you buckle your seat belts."
The U of L study results are published this week in the journal 'Pediatrics.'
