Smithland, KY – Livingston County is set to begin construction on a new $4 million building to house county government offices and a library. The county's new three-story building will take 16 to 18 months to complete. County officials and political dignitaries broke ground Friday on the new building, next to the former courthouse.
The facility will house offices for the county clerk, county attorney, property valuation administrator, judge-executive and sheriff's department, replacing the aging brick wings attached to the old courthouse.
County Magistrate Terry Stringer says the county issued bonds to fund the building, in addition to federal grants for its heating and air conditioning system and library.
