Nortonville's Finances Under Scrutiny

By Angela Hatton

Nortonville, KY – The city of Nortonville's finances are under investigation. Hopkins County attorney Todd P'Pool sent a formal letter to the mayor's office yesterday requesting five years' worth of financial records. The city has three days to respond to the request letter. The Madisonville Messenger reports Nortonville has not had a complete audit since 2006. City officials recently hired an accountant to do a full audit. The financial investigation comes a month after the city council forced the mayor and two city clerks to resign on charges of incompetence. After the clerks left, employees discovered the city's computers had been wiped clean. Kentucky State Police detectives are investigating that incident.
