Paducah, KY – Site preparation work for the new consolidated McCracken County High School will cost a million dollars less than expected. Mayfield-based Youngblood Excavating and Contracting submitted the low bid at about 2-point-2 million dollars. The bid now goes to the state Department of Education for approval. School board chairman Neil Archer tells the Paducah Sun the school's architect had made a conservative estimate predicting the project's cost and competition from other bidders may have driven it even lower. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for June 4 and development will begin mid-next month and is expected to finish in September.
