Nashville, TN – A Calvert City Police Officer who was involved in a wreck over the weekend is scheduled to have surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center today. Nicholas Spears has been in stable condition since being trapped in his police cruiser when it hit a tree after leaving the Purchase Parkway onramp to I-24. The Marshall County Sheriff's Department believes the vehicles' left tires may have fallen off the shoulder and Spears overcorrected. The Paducah Sun reports a number of local charities are rallying to help the officer and his young family, including collecting cash donations and organizing a benefit concert later this month.
