Paducah, KY – Paducah school officials could decide later this month where to build a new middle school, with state funds now available to replace category 5 schools as soon as construction is ready to begin. The Paducah Sun reports potential sites include building in the Forest Hills subdivision on land the board already owns or on property behind the current campus on Lone Oak Road, but that would require the school board to buy out over 30 residences and other property. Building the new school is expected to cost $17 million and funding came as almost a surprise in the Kentucky General Assembly's biennium budget. Senator Bob Leeper of Paducah is credited with helping secure the money.
