No Libertarians on Ticket

By Jacque Day

Kentucky – No Libertarians have stepped forward yet to run for U.S. Senate against Republican Rand Paul and Democrat Jack Conway. Kentucky Libertarian Party Chairman Ken Moellman said Wednesday he doubts anyone will, saying it seems "rather impractical" to try to run against the two well-funded candidates. Moellman said Libertarians aren't recruiting candidates. But he said "as a political organization, we have an obligation to consider any candidate who steps forward." The filing deadline is August 10. Political observers had reasoned that a Libertarian candidate in the race could siphon votes from Paul, the son of former Libertarian presidential candidate Ron Paul.
