Mayfield, KY – Mistakes made by State Police handling evidence have delayed indicting a Hickory, Kentucky man in a child-rape case by nearly a decade now. 42-year-old Allen Jones allegedly had sex with a handicapped teenage girl several times between 1999 and 2001. The girl told a case worker in late 2002 about her sexual relationship with Jones. Her computer was taken as evidence, but didn't make it to a state crime lab for almost five years. The case finally made into the hands of prosecutors after almost seven years. KSP spokesman Dean Patterson tells the Paducah Sun delays up to a year and a half are common, but this anomaly may have been caused by misplaced paperwork. Jones has been sentenced to serve five years in prison.
