Cardondale, IL – A Southern Illinois University spokesman says this week's chemical fire in a building on the Carbondale campus caused more than $250,000 damage. No injuries resulted from Wednesday's blaze. Authorities also evacuated the building. Officials say the fire began when a student was cleaning equipment with flammable hydrocarbons. SIU spokesman Rod Sievers says the damage was to the lab, the equipment and other contents.
