Louisville – Electricity rates throughout most of Kentucky could go up if the Kentucky Public Service Commission approves proposals from Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities. But before any decision is made, the commission is holding a hearing that starts today. Andrew Melnykovych is the commission's spokesperson.
"The principle issue is how much additional revenue should the utilities be allowed to receive from increased rates and then how that should be allocated among various classes of rate payers."
Many customers have objected to the rate hikes that would increase rates by an average of 12 percent for LG&E customers and more than 13 percent for those served by Kentucky Utilities. If approved, the rates would go into effect on July 31.
