Murray, Ky. – The Murray City Council passed the fiscal year 2010-2011 budget last night at an $877,391 deficit. The shortfall includes approximately half a million dollars to cover costs from the recent settlement with 27 Murray firefighters who sued the city for back overtime pay. The deficit means the city will likely need to dip into the reserve coffers. At present, the city's reserve sits at nearly $2 million. To close the shortfall will take the fund to just over $1.15 million. The council passed the budget 8 to 2, with two members not present. The new budget goes into effect July 1.
