Policy requires travel receipts; firefighters prefer allowance

By Todd Hatton/Paducah Sun

Paducah, KY – A new travel policy approved Thursday by Reidland-Farley Fire Department trustees is being opposed by firefighters. At issue was whether to pay firefighters who travel out of town for training and meetings a per-day allowance for meals or require receipts for actual expenses.
The Paducah Sun reports the policy was approved 5 to 2 after about 20 minutes of debate. David Penrod and Mike Young, who were elected by firefighters, dissented saying that getting and keeping receipts can be difficult during training.
Trustee Tillman Burnette says it's a credibility issue, and trustee Doug Moore calls the policy a prudent business practice.
