Paducah, KY – Several McCracken County clerk's office employees attended the county's fiscal court meeting last night in support of Clerk Jeff Jerrell. Some of Jerrell's policies have recently come under public scrutiny. None of those employees spoke to the court. One self-described county taxpayer began the court's discussion, voicing dissent about allegations that Jerrell is in the office for only 20 hours a week, but nets an annual salary of nearly $100,000. Other controversial policies concern the amount of paid holiday and vacation time granted to employees. Judge-Executive Van Newberry tells the Paducah Sun he was surprised none of Jerrell's employees spoke at the meeting and calls the current policies unfair to taxpayers and other county employees. Newberry plans to write a letter requesting the Clerk revise the policies. Jerrell did not attend the meeting, but was instead out of town at a state clerks' convention.
