Ed Whitfield Comments on Oil Spill

By Dan Conti

Murray, KY – Kentucky Congressman Ed Whitfield says there seems to have been several warnings about potentially huge problems with BP's oil well in the Gulf of Mexico prior to the explosion two months ago. That blast killed 11 workers aboard an oil rig and has caused the largest petroleum spill in U.S. history.
The republican lawmaker was among those who questioned oil industry executives yesterday, including b-p America President Lamar Mckay. Whitfield said, "There are reasons to believe that there were advanced warning given about problems with this particular well and I say this because of all of the things I've heard the testimony here, articles I've read and the letter from the chairman of the committee."

Whitfield also asked Mckay if he or his staff had been aware of potential hazards with the operation prior to the explosion. The BP official said "no".
