Hopkinsville, KY – High waters from a Tuesday night flash flood are now receding in Hopkinsville. The Fire, Street, and Police Department along with the City Planning Department worked together to handle the situation as quickly as possible. Fire Deputy Chief of Training Erin Bleidt is tentatively optimistic.
"We're all kind of holding our breaths for the next few days to let some of this water drain and get soaked in. So, as long as we don't get another significant rains event in the next few days, I think things should be back to normal."
Bleidt estimates Hopkinsville received about six to six-and-a-half inches of rain, forcing street closures and damaging some homes and businesses. He says they have not yet made a formal estimate on the total damages.
