Oak Grove Lawsuit Meeting Tonight

By Jacque Day

Oak Grove, Ky. – At 6 PM today, residents of Oak Grove have the opportunity to add their names to a lawsuit against Christian County Public Schools. Mayor Dan Potter anticipates a few hundred people will turn out early this evening to the sign-up meeting at Oak Grove Community Center. The mayor says school system officials have discriminated against Oak Grove by refusing to build a school there. He says, the suit won't be seeking financial restitution.

"It's not about money. And I know they can't build a school probably right now, because of finances. But I want an apology. And I want their promise that the next school will be built in Oak Grove."

Potter believes the discrimination is due in part to the county's transient military population. The population of Oak Grove is around nine thousand, with 84 percent of its students from adjacent Fort Campbell.
