Clarksville, TN – Police say a Fort Campbell soldier rescued a woman by diving into the Cumberland River to pull her from a submerged car. Clarksville police say Specialist Jose Ortiz and his girlfriend were sitting next to a boat ramp at McGregor Park Friday evening when a woman drove down the ramp and into the water.
Police say they believe the 58-year-old woman was suicidal and say she fought with Ortiz when he dove into the water to rescue her. His girlfriend quickly called police and Ortiz was able to remove the woman from the vehicle and get her out of the water. She was taken to the hospital and had no life-threatening injuries.
