Murray, KY – Dates are set for the 2011 FLW Outdoors Forrest World Cup Championship in Murray. Professional anglers will come to Kentucky Lake June 15 through the 18, with daily weigh-ins at the Regional Special Events Center. This is the second time Murray has hosted the tournament. Convention and Visitor's Bureau Director Erin Carrico says in 2009 the tournament brought two-fold success in both revenue and media attention.
"Usually we are put on the bass fishing network. We get recognition from local television, as well as national. It's picked up on ESPN and things of that nature. So it's a huge, huge impact for our city. It was a massive impact the first time, and I look for us to become even more nationally recognized the second time around."
Officials estimated the economic impact from the tournament at $2 million for Calloway and Marshall counties. A similar result is expected next year. FLW is a national fishing tournament organization with headquarters in Benton.
