FEMA Deadline July 12

By Kentucky Public Radio

Kentucky – Time is running out for Kentucky storm victims to apply for a FEMA grant and an SBA loan. Spokesman Michael Skeels says they need to hear from anyone who suffered property damage in the May 1 and 2 storms.

"July 12 is the deadline in Kentucky for registering for federal assistance. So if you think you don't have enough damage or you want to leave it for someone else, please don't. You need to register right now because there'd be nothing worse than for you to turn on your furnace in the late fall and find out it doesn't work because it was full of water and rusted out."

"When people have been affected by floods, disasters, tragedies, they don't recognize the signs of stress. You know grief, sadness, anger, those are all normal reactions to it, but you need to be aware of it."

So far, 6,100 households across the state have registered with FEMA. More than $14.5 million in grants have been distributed in Kentucky to victims of the early May storms.
