Frankfort, KY – Governor Steve Beshear is warning nearly 8,700 Kentuckians could stop receiving jobless benefits unless Congress resolves a federal funding dispute. Republicans filibustered the legislation last week. The bill would have provided $16 billion in new aid to states. But it includes dozens of tax breaks sought by business lobbyists and tax increases on domestically produced oil and on investment fund managers. Kentucky had counted on federal funds to help pay rising costs of jobless aid and Medicaid in crafting the budget.
