Metropolis, IL – The Honeywell nuclear materials plant in Metropolis, Illinois locked out its union workers last night after negotiations failed. A company spokesman says the Steelworkers union has again refused to sign a 24-hour strike notice agreement, and without the contract the company has barred union workers from the facility. Honeywell is now running the plant using what it calls trained and certified, salaried employees.' Union officials fear the plant's operation is now a safety concern without seasoned workers on the job. WPSD-TV reports both sides are meeting again this morning in Paducah.
