Ky schools participate in teacher evaluation program

By Angela Hatton

Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Department of Education expects to select around 20 school systems to be part of a teacher evaluation pilot program. Spokesperson Lisa Gross says the program was an important part of Kentucky's second Race to the Top application. The evaluations will look at teaching methods, not solely student achievement. Gross says several school systems have applied to be part of the pilot program this fall. That includes Dawson Springs Special School District. Officials plan to choose schools in the next few weeks. Gross says Kentucky will move forward with the new evaluations whether or not the state receives Race to the Top dollars.
