Trigg County, KY – A proposed policy might soon prohibit Trigg County School System employees from using tobacco in school buildings and vehicles. Board members heard the first reading of the new policy last week. Superintendent Tim McGinnis explains why the decision wasn't made sooner.
"You know we're a tobacco state, we're a tobacco region, we're a tobacco community and I think it was a culture issue as much as anything. We simply hadn't addressed it, and with the work of the wellness committee and the research on what tobacco use can do, and plus the fact that local tax payers in the community expect us to be good role models."
The board will hear the policy's second reading July 8. Once the board approves the ban, it will take effect immediately. In related news, today is Superintendent McGinnis's last day at the post. Travis Hamby formerly Trigg County assistant superintendent assumes the post tomorrow.
