Springfield, IL – Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has signed a new state budget that cuts spending. He simultaneously warned that further cuts are likely. The Chicago Democrat says the new budget reduces spending by $1.4 billion. But Quinn says he's also likely to impose further cuts as the fiscal year goes by. The governor wouldn't say which agencies are likely to feel the impact. Quinn says he's doing his best to protect government services that help the economy, schools, health and public safety. Illinois has a roughly $13 billion deficit. Officials have previously addressed the problem through spending cuts, borrowing and delaying payment of state bills.
