Frankfort, KY – A large group of family and friends gathered at Frankfort's Boone Army National Guard center Friday morning to greet army and air guard members coming home from a year in Afghanistan. The mission was to educate Afghan citizens on farming methods. Commander Colonel Mike Farley says it was quite a different experience from a previous tour in Iraq.
"I had an armor battalion in Iraq. My job was to kick in doors if you will. This mission was exact opposite everything we did on this mission was 100 percent rewarding we bonded with the people you know anytime you go to a rural area of a country you are going to the heart of that country."
The 64-soldier unit suffered no casualties. Farley says there were fortunate never to be fired on during their mission. The team included one guardsmen from Murray, Captain Jeremy Ballard. Another agribusiness team is already in Afghanistan.
