Murray, KY – Freedom Fest, Murray's annual Independence Day celebration gets underway this afternoon in the downtown court square. The three day event draws between eight and ten thousand people each year. Event Coordinator Stephanie Butler is helping set up.
"It definitely is one of the biggest events in Murray. I would say this, as far as festivals, this and the ice cream festival, um, usually have the same, the same participation. But the great thing about Freedom Fest is there's so many different events going on so no matter what you like to do, y'know, there's probably something here that you'll enjoy."
The event officially opens this afternoon at 4:30 with barbeque and free live music. Saturday features a parade, more music, and a fireworks show after dark. Freedom Fest runs through Sunday afternoon.
