Frankfort, KY – As part of the new federal health reform law, Kentuckians who have been without health insurance for at least six months and who've been denied coverage because of pre-existing health conditions, can now get coverage. Kentucky Voices for Health executive director Jodi Mitchell says the program is likely to be a helping hand to many in the Commonwealth.
"Approximately 920,000 Kentuckians under the age of 65, which is more than one in four of Kentucky's non elderly population, has a diagnosed, pre-exising health condition that could lead to a denial of health insurance."
It's called the Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) and it's a separate program from "high-risk" pools offered in a number of states, like Kentucky's Access program.
