Henderson, KY – Kentucky is shuttering a juvenile drug court program after it was deemed too expensive during rough economic times. The Henderson Gleaner reports the program fell victim to state budget cuts and current participants will either go back to juvenile court or probation when the program ends July 31st.
Juvenile drug court is a rehabilitation program that takes people between the ages of 13 and 17, who have been charged with a crime and sends them to group counseling sessions twice a week, along with weekly drug screens and drug court appearances. The Administrative Office of the Courts took over the program in 2007, with 34 teens participating and a dozen graduating.
