Louisville, KY – Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway is again asking the Public Service Commission to dismiss a request for rate increases from LG&E and Kentucky Utilities. The PSC is currently considering the rate case as well as the proposed sale of the two utilities to Pennsylvania-based PPL. Conway asserts that the rate case and the sale will affect each other, and he filed a request last month asking the PSC to dismiss the rate case until after it rules on the sale. The PSC denied the request, but Conway spokesperson Allison Gardner Martin says the re-file contains new evidence that came to light during the utilities' testimony before the commission.
"We do believe that it is not appropriate and that there is some benefit to the company making it more attractive for sale if it receives the rate increase from the Public Service Commission."
The utilities are allowed to respond to Conway, and the PSC will again consider the request. The deadline for the body to rule on the sale is in September, two months before the deadline to rule on the rate case.
