Paducah, KY – The last few weeks have been dry in western Kentucky, and a serious chance of rain isn't expected until the weekend. National Weather Service Hydro-meteorological Technician Robin Smith says the area around Paducah is six inches below normal seasonal levels. Smith says that doesn't necessarily mean an emergency.
"Although conditions are dry, you're currently not in any type of drought hazard. Nor do we have an outlook for you to become in a drought hazard through the month of September. So yes, it's dry, but we're not looking for anything severe."
Smith says currently the dry conditions are not bad enough to hurt crops. However, he says if no significant rain falls by the end of July, farmers may begin to see an effect on their harvest. Rainfall of less than two inches is predicted for Sunday and Monday.
