Frankfort, KY – State mine safety workers are having face-to-face meetings with coal miners at the job site to urge them to be vigilant about potential underground collapses. Four Kentucky miners have died in collapses this year. A statement Tuesday from the Kentucky Office of Mine Safety and Licensing says officials want mine safety analysts to go to mines at the beginning of each shift, with a goal to meet "with every miner to reinforce safety measures already in place." Mine Safety and Licensing Director Johnny Greene says asking miners to have a "heightened sense of awareness" of underground hazards will help stop accidents. Two miners died at a collapse at Dotiki mine in Hopkins County in April. Greene says the goal is "no more mining deaths in 2010."
