Commissioners to Vote on Temporary Tax Relief for Flood Victims

By Chris Taylor

Clarksville, TN – Montgomery County, Tennessee commissioners will vote next week on temporary property tax relief for those affected by May's Cumberland River flooding. The resolution would provide residents whose homes or businesses suffered substantial damage to have their property value lowered if not restored between June and September. County Property Assessor Betty Burchett tells the Clarksville Leaf Chronicle the measure would use an exception in state law that allows the county to prorate value estimates as long as the property is unusable. The vote is set for Monday.
