Mayfield, KY – Representatives from the Presbyterian church are discussing Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender issues this week. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church is in Minneapolis through Saturday for their biannual meeting. One committee recommendation would change church rules to allow non-celibate gay and lesbian ordinations. Another suggestion would amend the church's definition of marriage from "a man and a woman" to "two people." First Presbyterian of Mayfield Pastor Reverend John Faraone.
"My hunch is that too will fail through the majority of presbyteries."
Faraone continues he doesn't believe there is enough support in the rural regions. He says even if the General Assembly passes the changes, it's not a law until the 173 presbyteries approve it. But he says the issues are likely to rise again. The presbyteries have one year to vote on General Assembly issues.
