Paducah, KY – Despite the recent heat wave, electricity in the area has held plentiful. Big Rivers Electric, which supplies Jackson Purchase Energy, actually sold off 50,000 kilowatts yesterday. That's enough to power 5,000 homes. Energy officials say ample supply, a down economy and improving energy efficiency are behind the surplus. As the east coast has been buying up wholesale electricity to counter the heat wave there, the Paducah Sun reports Kentucky has significant, cheap electricity driven by coal-power.
