Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Personnel Cabinet released a proposal today that outlines plans for six furlough days in the upcoming fiscal year for state employees. It's a move the cabinet says will save the state $24 million. Secretary Nikki Jackson says it's a challenging task to furlough all state employees, including those who work in mental health facilities and prisons.
"This would also include those facilities that are responsible for care and safety of our citizens. So we anticipate that included in those plans would be a comprehensive request and plan for how furloughs may work for their facilities."
Jackson says for other cabinets, three of the six furlough days must come on Labor Day, Veterans Day and Memorial Day weekends. The others can be taken at the cabinet head's discretion, but must be taken in October, March or June.
