Clarksville, TN – Montgomery County, Tennessee authorities say a Fort Campbell soldier being chased by police crashed into another car and critically injured the driver. Sheriff's Department spokesman Ted Denny says the woman in the other car was taken in critical condition to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Authorities started following a sports utility vehicle Wednesday after drivers on Interstate 24 reported it weaving in and out of traffic. Deputies and Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers followed the vehicle until it crashed into another car on Highway 79 North.

The driver, 26-year-old Joseph Pergram, fled the scene but was later apprehended. He was charged with driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault and vehicular assault and is being held in jail on a $90,500 bond.
