Madisonville, KY – Officials with Madisonville and Hopkins County now question funding for a road project that wasn't on the list submitted to the Kentucky legislature. Hopkinsville Mayor Will Cox and Judge-Executive Donnie Carroll say they didn't know a three million dollar widening project on College Drive had been approved. The county typically vets roadwork through the Pennyrile Area Development District before sending requests to the state legislature. Carroll tells the Madisonville Messenger other projects should have taken priority over this one. State Senator Jerry Rhoads of Madisonville says College Drive has been in the road plan since 2008, and that projects aren't required to go through the PADD office. Madisonville Community College President Doctor Judy Rhoads first proposed the College Drive widening in 2006. Doctor Rhoads is married to Senator Rhoads.
