Mayfield, KY – One of the two Graves County people charged with animal cruelty has entered a plea. Joanal Deberry entered an Alford Plea at a hearing Monday. The kind of plea means Deberry has admitted there is enough evidence to convict him, but it is not an admission of guilt. The settlement today cancels a trial scheduled to begin Tuesday. A sentencing hearing is scheduled August 23. Deberry's wife, Amy Deberry has a separate plea hearing August 17. The two were arrested in November 2008 after police seized dozens of dogs from their property. Many animals had wounds consistent with dog fighting.
